  • Position Summary

    The Assistant Dean of Student Support joins the staff of one of the leading global graduate professional art schools as a vital team member by addressing the needs of students who are experiencing challenges in areas such as psychological health, physical health, behavior, personal finance, family relationships, social adjustments, and academics. Through a variety of interventions, referrals, and follow up services, the incumbent will contribute to the success of each student. Responsibilities include coordinating the implementation of formal accommodations, case management, and collaboration and consultation with directors of academic administration, health care providers, and colleagues within the School of the Arts (SOA) and the university at large. Additional activities include data collection, assessment, and other relevant special projects.

    Review of applications will begin April 1, 2020. Expected start date: July 1, 2020.

    Responsibilities

  • Ability to identify students in crisis based on social work, clinical psychology or counseling psychology experience; provide support as needed
  • Offers non-confidential counseling support and referrals
  • Assists in identifying effective planning for students and/or training for faculty to prevent concerning behavior or crisis
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for community members to express concerns about persons exhibiting symptoms associated with distress.
  • Provides follow-up services to check on compliance with recommendations by consulting and collaborating regularly with various campus partners, departments, schools, and providers to achieve case management goals.
  • Serves as the SOA Office of Disability Services Liaison and primary point person for students with approved accommodations to contact for implementation needs.
  • Manages and tracks all student issues, ensures proper documentation and case file management of individual situations, and provides regular updates to Dean of Student and Alumni Affairs.
  • Maintains relationships with University support offices to which the Assistant Dean might refer students, including Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Sexual Violence Response, the Office of University Life, Disability Services, etc.;
  • Provides support for students navigating the academic integrity process.
  • Manages a case load of students with academic needs by providing support, referrals, and follow-up.
  • Maintains an intake system for students who have been referred to the Office of Student Affairs. Manages calendar and schedules appointments.
  • Provide ongoing development and outreach education to the School of the Arts community, including students, staff, faculty, and campus partners.
  • Develops and administers an assessment plan for case management services. Assists in the preparation of departmental, division, and university reports.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required, preferably in the fields of Counseling, Social Work, Student Affairs, or Public Health, or other researched professional degree, i.e. Ph.D, Ed.D.
  • Four to six years of relevant work experience in higher education.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively to groups; works well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to assess information regarding persons of concern.
  • Ability to professionally and appropriately manage sensitive and private information.
  • Knowledge, experience, and comfort with recognizing mental health signs and symptoms.
  • Ability to synthesize and summarize large amounts of information, document information electronically in a timely manner, and verbally communicate with appropriate stakeholders as warranted.
  • Knowledge of School of the Arts and community resources and the ability to make referrals.
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to strict privacy restrictions.
  • Skill in using technology to track and manage individual cases (Maxient).
  • Ability to assess and report on school trends.
  • Knowledge of current regulations relevant to work in higher education (i.e., Title II, III & IX; FERPA; HIPAA).
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification and/or Licensure in relevant mental health discipline.
  • Seven years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong interest in the arts and/or working with artists.
