Director of Operations
ROLE SUMMARY
Leads, manages and coaches the manufacturing operations in Carlisle PA, Responsible for all manufacturing processes from the dispensing of raw materials through to the final packaging of products. Delivering quality product in a safe and efficient manner meeting all quality standards and fully in conformance to GMP. The incumbent is directly responsible for all procedures and documents SOP's related to the manufacture and packaging process of such products. Interact with Supply Chain, Quality Management, Engineering, and other support groups to achieve departmental and plant objectives. The incumbent is a role model of Pfizer values and will assure that all colleagues within the unit understand and live by these values. This person will lead his/her department to deliver on all aspects of the PGS Fundamental Value proposition, supplying products to meet customer demands on time and cost effective, while at the same time never compromising on quality. The leader will build a positive
engagement team environment consist with the PGS OWN IT culture and will empower the organization to delivery continuous improvement. The leader will also support strategic competitiveness of the site, supporting optimal asset utilization, and new technology initiatives. The leader will be an active member of the Carlisle leadership team, making a significant contribution to the success of the site. The leader will; also develop relationships throughout the network, working together to ensure the best business outcomes for PGS and Pfizer. The leader will continuously develop colleague skills and competences in the team, including identifying and supporting the development of future key talent. The Director of Operations is a member of the Carlisle Site Leadership Team (SLT).
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
* Direct and coordinate manufacturing and packaging operations activities in a GMP environment. This is achieved within the framework of quality and safety regulations, delivery and productivity expectations.
* Develop, review and approve operating budget and variance forecast; assures effective execution of approved budget to favorably control operating cost and maximize profitability
* Prepares capital budgets and CPA for production related equipment to meet long-term requirements, while maximizing ROI.
* Develop high performance teamwork through enhancing the skills and competences of the team. Provide coaching and direction to the team as required enabling them to be fully accountable for business results.
* Identify and develop key talent to ensure the future success of the business
* Ensures the proper and adequate management of personnel. Oversees the enforcement of disciplinary actions, promotional reviews and salary administration to promote morale and efficiency through equitable administration. Provide technical assistance and advice to the team.
* Ensure the compliance with local and federal regulations as well as company policies, and any other applicable government regulations
* Promotes safety, industrial hygiene and employee relations programs for all colleagues in his/her responsibility area. Implements training programs and techniques to develop and maintain a work force committed to these requirements
* Leads and champions an environment conducive to continuous improvement and innovation to improve Operations.
* Assures these ideas are implemented in order to optimize and maximize all manufacturing and packaging activities.
* Develops excellent relationships throughout the PGS network to deliver the best business outcomes for Pfizer and PGS
Production:
* Works with the Production Supervisors to ensure proper planning and alignment of resources, time, and materials to achieve the site production plan.
* Routinely interacts with site teams (Quality, Supply Chain, Finance, Procurement, Technical Services, Engineering, OpEx/Training) to ensure alignment of objectives, priorities and projects that impact production and maintenance planning/execution.
Maintenance
* Works with the Maintenance to ensure adequate resources and capabilities are aligned to support successful execution of the production plan.
* Works with the Reliability Engineer to ensure development of a robust site equipment reliability program, adequate progress against the plan, and timely communication of key metrics on the program status and activities.
Leadership
* Enhance the OWN IT culture to ensure collaboration, accountability and ownership of the business throughout the team
* Coaches Production Supervisors and subordinates to ensure regular performance feedback is provided to all team colleagues.
* Effectively utilize the performance management system in compliance with company guidelines for performance appraisals and pay for performance strategy for manufacturing and packaging members. Identify low performers, effectively manages the corrective action plan or performance improvement plan.
* Actively support all manufacturing and packaging members in successful planning and implementation of individual development plans in current and/or future goals.
* Work with the management to develop, implement and manage an effective retention strategy. Differentiate compensation, rewards and recognition for top performers.
* Promotes a culture where colleagues feel valued and developed by creating open and trusting working relationships in a cross functional environment. Develop strategies which maximize colleague engagement and diversity.
Budget and Financial
* Administers department budget and expenditures. Continually assess opportunities to improve the quality and efficiency of department's processes.
* Active participation in the budgets and forecasts for capital, resources and key business performance indicators.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's Degree in related technical or engineering field is required. Graduate degree preferred (business, management, sciences)
* Minimum 15 years manufacturing experience.
* Ability to multi-task multiple priorities and projects, organize and drive projects forward.
* Ability to collaborate with others and negotiate alternative solutions in order to remove roadblocks to success.
* This position requires a self-motivated, well-organized individual with strong process manufacturing experience.
* The incumbent must have influential skills and managerial experience as supervision and coaching of personnel will be required, depending on project.
Additional skills required include:
* Demonstrated ability in leading cross-functional organizational improvement project teams to success through effective training, support, coordination and implementation of improvement programs.
* Demonstrated team leadership skills (coaching and facilitation) and the ability to work independently as required.
* Strong analytical skills in gathering data from operations groups, defining work problems and working with operational teams to design effective solutions to resolve problems.
* Strong organizational, time management, planning, and creativity skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees (including Senior Management), with a high customer service focus.
* Knowledge of cGMPs through previous manufacturing experience
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Needs to be able to sit, stand and walk in both an office and manufacturing production environment.
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
* Traveling is required
* Available to provide on-call support during weekends, holidays and after working office hours.
